Hosting provider Beget has rolled out a new feature for its virtual servers: users can now boot a VPS from their own OS image. For those who prefer things done their way, this is a welcome upgrade.
Why it matters
Custom image support brings several practical benefits. First, it saves time — no need for endless manual setup. Second, it allows for fine-tuned customization: your image can contain only what you actually need. And third, it makes migration a breeze: projects with all apps, files, and configs can move to the cloud without losing their familiar setup.
It’s also possible to create an image from an existing VPS and deploy it in another location. Think of it as moving house, but without the cardboard boxes.
Technical notes
Image storage is priced at 3 RUB per gigabyte. After deploying a VPS, the image can be removed. At this stage, only Linux-based systems are supported, though Beget plans to add Windows support in the future.
