Hosting provider ProCloud has unveiled a new security feature now available in beta for customers using Colocation and dedicated servers in its Moscow data center.
A Gatekeeper with Brains
The Firewall acts as a digital bouncer, deciding who gets in and who stays out. Clients can set custom rules to filter inbound traffic and protect their infrastructure from unwanted connections and network attacks.
Unlike basic filters that only check IPs and ports, ProCloud relies on a stateful firewall. It keeps track of active connections, allowing response traffic through while blocking everything unrelated.
How It Works
Users can activate the Firewall through the ProCloud dashboard in just a few steps:
-
Go to Data Center Infrastructure → Firewalls.
-
Create rules to allow necessary traffic, such as ports 80/443 for web servers or 22 for SSH.
-
Enable protection with the “Enable Firewall” switch.
Things to Keep in Mind
-
The service is in beta and free of charge during testing.
-
Only inbound traffic is filtered; outbound is always allowed.
-
If the Firewall is enabled without any allow-rules, all incoming traffic will be blocked — so at least permit ICMP/ICMPv6 for network diagnostics.
-
Rules cannot be edited; to change them, delete the old one and create a new rule.
ProCloud notes that the Firewall is still evolving, and customer feedback will help refine the service further.
