Starting October 6, Identity Digital, the largest operator of new domain zones, will raise registration prices across 231 TLDs. And the increases aren’t exactly symbolic — some will sting.
The biggest price shocks
Hikes will range from 6% to a whopping 220%. The steepest jumps will hit .forex, .shiksha, and .airforce, where costs will double or even triple. Luckily, each of these zones has fewer than 2,000 domains, so the drama will affect only a small crowd.
Among more popular zones, .church will see a 45% rise, .plus will climb 31%, and .chat, .vision, and .cool will all jump by 30%. Across all TLDs, the median increase lands at 12%.
A tiny silver lining
Not everything is going up. Two zones — .gripe and .sarl — are set to get cheaper. The first is perfect for airing complaints, while the second fits neatly into French business needs. Still, calling this a generous trade-off might be a stretch.
Adding to the frustration, many domain owners learned about the upcoming hikes not from Identity Digital itself but from third-party sources. The company has now confirmed the changes, leaving domain investors and website owners to re-crunch their budgets before the new rates hit.
